Sonam Kushner, CCH, HMC, professional homeopath

An open mind offers the best opportunity for creativity and learning which is not possible when one is fixed or attached to a particular view or belief. To be uncertain is to be in a state of readiness, to be uncertain is to be open to many possibilities. Knowing the answers in advance may cloud our ability to see clearly, thus keeping an open and receptive mind is a particular challenge both for student and supervisor.

It is my aim as a supervisor to be present for the student with quietness, generosity and patience. To help and support them in their own experience and guide them to finding their own answers. To give honest feedback, without judgment, and in a spirit of self-inquiry, by reflecting the view before us. To stand back and watch their skills flourish.

I encourage the student to accept questioning not as seeds for self-doubt but as a challenge and an adventure into unchartered waters, as a means that can take us beyond our own experience. I seek to inspire confidence in their own abilities so that they may leave supervision with a clear sense of their own way.

The ancient Master

didn’t try to educate the people,

but kindly taught them to not-know.

When they think that they know the answers,

people are difficult to guide.

When they know that they don’t know,

people can find their own way......

~from the Tao Te Ching

Sonam is an experienced and intelligent practitioner, with great insight into remedy pictures. Working with her was a good and enriching experience in helping me to move from paper cases into prescribing for real patients.

My supervision process with Sonam Kushner has been invaluable to my transition from a student of homeopathy to a practicing homeopath. Sonam brings to the process a centered calmness and clear understanding of the purpose of supervision — challenging one to think. Integral to this process is philosophy in practice; understanding how the tenets of homeopathic philosophy inform one’s understanding and managing of cases. Sonam generously shares her vast knowledge of materia medica and repertory as well as her visceral perceptions. Throughout my supervisory period she has made herself available to discuss any issue that has arisen; I feel I have been truly supported. I highly recommend her as a supervisor to any student needing and willing to grow even more to bridge the gap into homeopathic practice.
